The perfect no polish mani

I have been loving nail polish recently, as most of you know. Over here at Luna HQ I am lucky enough to have an entire floor of my family's home to myself.  My Mum's friend has been staying with us and as a result I have been letting her stay in one of the rooms on my floor. The room I store my polish collection in! I never want to disturb her so I haven't been doing my nails as frequently as I was before. This cloud has a silver lining as I have perfected the perfect no polish manicure. Still very pampering and a nice way to wind down while watching my favorite shows online. Nail polish can actually suffocate your nails if you wear it too long. Going au natural every once in a while has some really great benefits. One being it keeps them healthy!

I like to start off with my favourite polish remover, the Zoya 3-in-1 Remove plus. This takes off any polish, stains, oil, etc. ( As you can see in this photo I need to pick up a new bottle as I am almost out!) The top is a pump which makes it easier to use than the other polish cleaners.

This is a hand bath I was given as a gift. I'm not sure where you can buy these, but a simple search online should produce results!

I like to pair the hand bath with these little lovely 'finger bath bombs' ( how cute is that?!) These ones are papaya and green tea sea fizz. They're sanitizing and meant to help keep your nails white and moisturized. It's a very pampering and they smell so good! These are by the brand Cuccio .

If you want an intense hand treatment I strongly recommend the Sally Hansen 'Manicure In A Minute'. It's texture is paste-like. Lot's of oils and salt to scrub away any dead skin. You can scrub with water, or for a more exfoliating payoff scrub without. When you're done you can just rinse it off and it'll leave the oil that you can rub into your skin. (It really is an amazing hand treatment-- it has so much to offer! I can't recommend it enough!)

I then like to use the Essie apricot cuticle oil and rub it into my cuticles.

Another alternative is using straight Vitamin E Oil on your cuticles. You can find these in most spas.

Then using a manicure stick I push back my cuticles and clean under my nails.

Using a 4 sided manicure block I file and shape the edges of my nails then buff and polish the tops of my nails. This block is from Sephora and if you've never tried a manicure block it's a definite must. It'll make your nails shine, remove ridges and make them look over the top healthy. And if you're planning on using polish on your fingers, it makes it glide on smoothly and last a lot longer.

If your nail is still looking a little yellow the 'Sally Hansen 2-in-1 Nail White Pencil' is the perfect fix. Dab the end in water (it looks like an eyeliner stick) and draw underneath your nail that's grown over the edge of your finger.

If you didn't use the Sally Hansen Manicure In A Minute, your hands might feel a little dry at this point. Finishing up with some hand cream is the perfect end to any manicure! This is Philosophy's 'time on your hands' exfoliating hand and cuticle cream. I wouldn't recommend it outright as I have used other creams that I feel have done a much better job. I find this one will feel good for a few minutes then I'll need to reapply but it won't moisturize as well as I'd like. Plus the smell leaves something to be sought after.

If you've followed all these steps you're sure to have had a pampering polishless manicure!

Until next time,
Luna.

Finished Products & Mini Reviews

Hello everyone!
I have been making list upon list of all these different blog post ideas that I want to do. I am so inspired and motivated to just keep blogging. Which is a pretty big feat for me as I tend to lose interest in projects I take on. I have many upcoming posts is what I am trying to say... so stay tuned!
Today I have some finished products and my thoughts on them. I have noticed a lot of the beauty community on YouTube doing videos like these and I thought I should try it out in blog form! Without further introduction, let's get into it!

Life Essentials : nail polish remover

What it says on the bottle: "safe for sensitive and artificial nails with vitamin E and chamomile."

This product works well and is priced reasonably. The only thing I dislike about it is the smell. Like most removers it has a strong chemical smell that can actually end up giving me a headache. It doesn't bother me enough that i'd say I would never buy this product again, though. Its a polish remover and that's pretty much what you sign up for when purchasing one of these.
I know that Sparitual makes a remover that doesn't smell half bad, so if you're like me and dislike the eye watering chemical smell, I would suggest trying one of their's out!
This bottle was only 125 mL and if I buy this again, it'll be for traveling.

Philosophy: Keep the Peace moisturizer

What it says on the package: "Super soothing moisturizer for redness and sensitivity."

This product had me getting all sorts of excited. I am a bit of a moisturizer junkie (my entire drawer of lotion can attest to that) so trying out (and hopefully falling in love with) samples is something I really look forward to. This product was a huge disappointment. It left my face feeling greasy. I ended up getting a pretty bad breakout from this that I am still recovering from. I will not be purchasing this in full size (obviously).

Lush: R&B hair moisturizer

What it says online:

REVIVE AND BALANCE MISBEHAVING HAIR

Enjoy some of our smooth R & B hair stylings to control your frizzy, flyaway hair. An instant best-seller, our easy-to-use “hair finisher” uses softening ingredients of organic avocado butter, oatmeal, olive oil, extra virgin coconut oil, jojoba oil and candelilla wax because they are extremely effective for conditioning the hair and scalp. Three of our UK shop managers came up with R & B to revive and balance their wayward follicles. It works well with African American or curly hair because it conditions with a lot of moisture. And once you smell the seductive orange blossom and jasmine fragrance, your hair will truly get its groove back.

This sample lasted me a ridiculously long time (yay). I have really long hair so I need oils/creams for ends of my hair or it's "hello frizz-ville!". This product was ah-mazing. I loved the smell of it, like herbal or spicy or....something. I am not the best at describing scents (as you can tell). If you can get to a Lush I would really recommend giving this a nice big whiff. This stuff works like magic. It totally calmed my frizzy-ness and helped with my split ends. I would totally 100% buy this in full size.

Lush: Rub Rub Rub Shower Scrub

What it says on the bottle: "Lather & scrub all over your body (and your hair when you're in a hurry)."

This is a really good exfoliator. It's a little much for me, though. It has huge pieces of sea salt that really scrape off your dead skin. I don't need anything so intensive for my body so I probably won't be repurchasing. It would be nice to use this maybe once or twice a month, but I can't justify buying a product I won't use as often as i'd like.

Lush: Marilyn Hair Moisturizer

What it says on the bottle: " Want to be a natural 'blonde'? Give yourself chamomile highlights and hair that's soft like silk."

I have naturally blonde hair, but the woman working at Lush said that it would be a nice treatment for me. I bought this during winter when my sad Canadian "my hair sees no sun" roots came in. I can honestly say that this hair moisturizer (that works a lot like a hair mask) did absolutely nothing for me. The consistency was really watery and it just didn't feel as moisturizing or as pampering as I wanted it to. I was really disappointed with this one. I might buy it again (not anytime soon though) just to give it another chance. I really, really want to love this one!

Lush: Almond & Coconut Smoothie Shower Soap

What it says on the bottle: "A beautiful ylang ylang shower soap for dry skin."

You know what they say... save the best for last! I have bought this at least 3 other times and I can never get enough! The consistency is like a whipped up soft cream (say what?!). The smell is so divine,  it's so light and just barely there. I want everything to smell like that. They should make detergent and candles and plug ins that smell this way. Sigh. I love it so, so much. I can honestly say that this is without a doubt my favorite Lush product. I haven't tried everything they have out, but from what I have (which is a lot... so I am comparing to a good amount of their products!) this is by far the best. If I could this would magically refill itself after every use, but alas, I am not that lucky.
I would without a shadow of a doubt repurchase this, for me and for any of my friends who have upcoming birthdays/events. I need to stop ranting about this.. I think you understand that I LOVE THIS PRODUCT.   :-)

That's all for now!
Until next time,

-Luna.

Mini Haul :)

So the other day I was down at the Toronto Beaches with a friend and I picked up a few things that I thought I would share :)
Before I start though, please don't mind the fact that I have an American flag pillow. I am in no way American and honestly it's a pet peeve of mine when Canadians (or anyone, really) walk around with shirts that say "New York" or "LA" (New york/LA are the best examples, I think) when they bought it downtown and have never even been there.  I bought that pillow on sale at UO (womp womp womp). It's reversible though, the other side is polka dots so.... don't judge me? I am my own worst critic though so... I need to relax basically. I should really get a canadian flag pillow or something to make up for this. sigh.

I picked up a few new Essie bottles to add to my collection (I have a problem). I finally found the apricot cuticle oil! I noticed that my cuticles have been getting super dry and cracking because of the amount of nail polish & nail polish remover i've been using recently. I have used it a few times already and I think it's helping. Be warned though, try to find one of these that you can smell before purchasing. It has a very strong perfume-y scent. I don't think it's something that would be everyone's cup of tea. Personally I usually can't stand things with super strong scent's but I can manage this one.

I also grabbed a new lacquer. In my last post I talked about wanting a lighter grey and I found one! It's called "Sand Tropez" and it's a creamy light grey. Here it is in comparison to Essie's "Master Plan".
("Master Plan" on left, "Sand Tropez" on right.)
I was worried that Sand Tropez might give me a corpse like look since I have such pale skin, but it actually looks really light and clean which I really like.

So I really dislike looking at pictures of feet, so sorry to anyone who is like me and cringing a little bit right now. Last year when I was on a road trip I managed to lose my black Birkenstocks and man I was so sad about that. They had FINALLY formed to the shape of my feet and were super comfortable.
I went into Walking On A Cloud and found a pair in my size. Because I wear the narrow Birks they only had one color in my size-- dark brown. I had my eye on an off white sand/buff color I had seen in another store. I think this worked out for the best. This color will go with anything I want to wear so that's definitely an upside.
The lady who sold them to me explained that these are the newer version that came out recently. It has another layer on top of the cork so that it's softer. I remember breaking in my first pair and it actually hurt so I am happy they figured out something for that. I can tell you that they are REALLY comfortable and I am so happy I have proper sandals now.
That's everything I bought while I was out. :)

Until next time,

- Luna.

Nails: most recent choices

^ collective photo of the polishes I am going to talk about! ^
The bright green mani! I used Zoya in "Mitzi" for my ring finger and Revlon's "Super Nature" for the rest of my hand. I was inspired by my love for Revlon's "sassy" and decided to try out some of the other greens in my collection. My thoughts? I do really like both of these colors but man, they just haven't stuck with me the way that "Sassy" did. Mitzi is actually a matte color and I really like the idea of that but I might need to have a full manicure with this polish to form a proper opinion. "Super Nature" really reminded me of that old show "UH OH" does anyone remember that?! The green slime they would dump on people. That's what I was thinking the whole time I was wearing it. I liked the nostalgia but I am not sure I really want to think about green slime when I am looking at my nails.. or is that just me? This might be a good halloween polish as it also brings back memories of the dripping Goosebumps logo. ah, elementary school.
The last polish I am going to talk about is Essie's "Master plan". OH MY GOD. I LOVE THIS SHADE. I was looking for a nice grey and man did I find it. I kept this shade on for a lot longer than I would normally leave any polish on. I loved it that much. Pictured is 2 coats and it's really all you need (!!!). This polish is really neutral and elegant, it can be casual or dressed up. I really like that I can wear any outfit with it and not wonder "will it clash?" . I am now looking at Essie's "body language" as it is a lighter version of "Master plan".. I need it in my collection! (*obsessively looks up reviews*).

Until next time.

Pro2 Photoshoot- Inspiration & Final Product!

Hello Everyone!
I have been mulling over what I should make my next post. And I have decided on my final product from my Pro2 makeup class. At the end of each course at my beauty school we are given a photographer who takes photo's of the makeup we do on the last day. This gives us photo's to put into our "coffee table book"/resume ( what we show clients ). It's also a project and we are marked on everything-- including all the work up to that point (like the face chart and all the planning). First let's look at the photo's that inspired me for my project. :)

( I really wanted to make a flower crown for the final product, but I ran out of time. Womp Womp Womp.)

I decided on gold eyeliner as I was inspired by Cinna in the Hunger Games. This is when I decided to try it out on myself ( the top liner only ).
I used the gold from my Makeup Forever flash palette, sealed it with Mac's Goldmine eyeshadow. I then used NYX's gold glitter liner on top to make it 3D.

I would have loved to share with you what my face chart looked like. Unfortunately I have lost it!

Here is the final product:

My lovely friend Maija was kind enough to model for me.
Anyways I hope you enjoyed this and happy long weekend!

girls night in

girls night in

girls night in by kenzi-alex featuring a lacy camisole

I am not sure about you girls (and boys) but I have been feeling really nostalgic about all the fun sleepovers I had as a kid/teenager. I really miss just hanging out watching movies/TV shows, doing our nails and sipping on tea. Its such a nice way to bond and relax after a long day. I decided to go to on polyvore and make a set of what I would love to have for my perfect girls night in. A pampering and relaxing bonding experience for my friends and I.

Beauty: Some favorites

collective photo of all the products I am going to talk about. Not the best quality, sorry! All photos are taken on my Iphone.

This Laura Mercier hand cream is a present I got from my mum last winter while I was at my cottage at a "girls getaway" that lasted almost a month (the getaway...not the cream.) I believe it's a pistachio cream, but I am not sure as the entire packaging is in french and dude... I can't read french. The scent is something really different and not like any other I have ever smelt. So as soon as I crack this baby open the smell brings back all the memories of the girls getaway and it's a really good feeling.
This toner is one of my favorites of all time. It was the only one in the drugstore that didn't have any alcohol. It's very gentle and certainly something I have been reaching for a lot as of late.
I have an obsession with chapstick. I need one with me at all times. I have been reaching for this one a lot recently. I think this is pretty easy to find. Good ol' cherry chapstick never disappoints. I believe I picked this up in the US during my road trip last summer.
This is a product that I got for free from an event that Elle Magazine hosted a few months ago. John Frieda's Luxurious volume. "Fine to full blowout spray". I love spraying this in my hair after a shower. It smells amazing too!
This is an ABSOLUTE must have for me. I am in beauty school (currently on break for summer). But while I was in class we had to take our makeup on and off constantly throughout the day as we were using each other as models. I ended up getting a rash under my eye from the remover I was using. My school sells Makeup Forever products in the school store so I bought it on a recommendation from my teacher. It's a little expensive, but completely worth the price. I haven't broken out, had teary eyes or anything while using this. It's so gentle and perfect for my sensitive skin and eyes!
Mac's "all that glitters" eyeshadow. I bought this for a job. I was hired to do someone's prom makeup and needed a nice gold. I have been using this a lot on myself as I have been going through a boho faze and it went perfectly with my outfits and what have you that I have been wearing recently.
The urban decay NAKED basics palette. This has been pretty perfect for when I am on the go. It's so small it fits perfectly in my purse so I can do my makeup in the car.
A shot of the palette open. The colors are (from left to right) : Venus, Foxy, w.o.s, naked2, faint, crave.
Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain. I love these things. They make your lips glossy but also give a surprising amount of color. They have a Mint scent/taste and I can't recommend it enough! pictured is the color 015 "cherish devotion". Which is a purple-y light pink ( that's very bright in my opinion).
And for a nail polish, I chose Revlon's 510 "sassy" a bright green. It was hard to choose just one nail color as I have been obsessing over nails recently, but I decided on this one because it's something I never would have thought i'd like. It really surprised me and made me go out of my comfort zone with something I normally would have never chosen or worn at all.

I hope everyone is enjoying their day and I will be back with something new when inspiration strikes!
